William George Brown, “Brownie”, 85, died peacefully on March 11, 2022, at his home. Born and raised in Somerville to the late Frank and Naomi Brown (nee Frech), he was a lifelong resident of Somerville. He went on to marry the love of his life, the late Maryana Bernabiti, and settled in Somerville where they raised their family. Better known by Brownie, and a list of variations, he was a Master Plumber who took over the plumbing business of his father-in-law, Bernabiti Plumbing. He carried on working for himself for over forty years and was dedicated to helping people on any job, big or small. He was a Volunteer Fire Fighter and life member of Central Hook & Ladder Company #1 of Somerville where he was a past Chief. Dedication is an understatement to the level of commitment Brownie gave in all he did. He was a founding member of the Somerset Aerie #2137 Fraternal Order of Eagles and former officer. Brownie was a member of the Somerville Elks Lodge 1068 where he was former Elk of the Year. One of the leaders of the Over the Hill Gang, he founded their softball team and not so private social club. Everything he joined and did; he did to make a difference. Brownie was known to be all in, all the time. He would go above and beyond and bring a good laugh with him. He enjoyed staying active in his social clubs and playing cards, knowing the comradery and time together brought a light to life. Brownie stayed active playing sports and golfing, even if it was a nice walk ruined by a little ball. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, dear friend, and notable member of the community who will be missed. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Maryana Brown in 2018. Surviving are his daughter, Stacie Baxter and husband Mark, son William J. Brown, grandsons Travis Baxter and Jesse Brown and wife Mary Kate, his cherished great-granddaughter Rory Baxter, his sisters Betty Doyle, Joyce Richards, Doris Souerhoeffer, as well as his extended family and friends. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 17, 2022, from 4:00 to 8:00PM at Cusick Funeral Home, 80 Mountain Avenue, Somerville.
