William W. Anderson

William "Bill" Anderson died peacefully on June 20 with his family by his side. He was born in Cleveland, OH., on August 26, 1928 and had lived in Bridgewater for 58 years. Mr. Anderson graduated from Charles F. Brush High School in Ohio and Wesleyan University in Conneticut and served as a Lieutenant in the US Army Signal Corps from 1951 to 1953.

Bill is survived by his wife of 58 years, Josephine, two daughters Kathleen Anderson and Susan DeCastro, son-in-law Rafael DeCastro, grandchildren Kimberly Amaral, husband Zak, Matthew Gordon and Isabella DeCastro and a great grandson Maxwell Amaral.

Since 1954, Mr. Anderson was employed for the Somerset Press in Somerville, beginning as the Sports Editor for the Somerset Messenger Gazette then manager of the Princeton Shopping Center News and later as Executive Vice President of the Somerset Press printing operation. He continued as President after the company was sold to Forbes Inc. retiring in 1989. In 1990, Bill was appointed Court Administrator for Bridgewater Township, then to Purchasing Agent and later Administrator for the Division of Golf Management for the Somerset County Park Commission.

Mr. Anderson was always interested in his community and was one of the original partners in radio station WBRW in Bridgewater. He was a Commissioner with with the Somerset County Park Commission for 25 years, Past President of the Raritan Valley Country Club, the Somerville-Raritan Exchange Club and the Somerville Jaycees as well as serving on the Board of the Somerset Valley YMCA, Past Chairman of the Somerville Advisory Board of Security Savings and Loans, Director of the Somerset Savings Bank, member of the NJ Seniors Golf Association and the United Reformed Church, Somerville.

Golf was Bill's passion. In 1963 he was the NJ State Golf Association Amateur Champion, in 1960 a Runnerup,and in 1961 a Medalist along with numerous Club Championships at Raritan Valley Country Club and Fort Monmouth Golf Club.

Private family services will be held. Memorial donations may be made in Mr. Anderson's memory to the Parkinson Foundation or Alzheimer's Association.
