Walter William Molzen, Jr.

November 14, 1944 — October 15, 2024

Walter William Molzen, Jr., 79, died peacefully on October 15, 2024 one month before his 80th birthday.

Born in Manhattan, New York to the late Walter, Sr. and Rose Molzen (nee DiPietro), he was raised in Manhattan and then Saddle Brook, New Jersey. He was a graduate of Fordham Preparatory High School where he delivered the daily newspapers to pay for his tuition. He went on to obtain his undergraduate degree from Rutgers University Newark before getting his Masters Degree in Physical Chemistry from Rutgers University New Brunswick.

Walter met his beloved wife Kathryn Lynn Swingle, while in graduate school, and the two have been inseparable ever since. Together they moved to New York State when he started his long career at IBM as a materials scientist in 1970. He loved hands on research and was named on many patents during this time. He always said he walked into the IBM Yorktown Heights Research Center in 1970 and 30 years later walked out of the same building.

They moved to Whaley Lake in Holmes, New York in 1986. Walt loved hunting, fishing, photography, shooting sports, boating, water sports and fast cars. He loved going on guided sporting trips in various parts of the world, often with a family member, friend or relative. At home, Walt enjoyed fishing and boating on Whaley Lake and liked nothing more than getting a beginner up on water skis for the first time. He was so very happy to be nearer to family when the Molzens moved to Canal Walk in Somerset NJ in 2021. He felt it was such a gift to be living near his 2 sons, their spouses and his grandchildren .

Surviving are his much loved wife of fifty-five years, Lynn Molzen, his loving sons Jason Molzen and wife Joy, Bradley Molzen and wife Ivana, his cherished grandchildren, Anneliese, Michael, Kaden, and Milana, his dear siblings Jeannette Kaefer and husband Kenneth, Steven Molzen and wife Dawn, and Kim Molzen and their many children and grandchildren.

Walt felt his wife Lynn’s siblings and their families were also very much his family. Those sibling in-laws are Margo Kelker and Mike Kelker (deceased), Drs Elaine Swingle and David Nowicki, Joe and Carrie Swingle, Dr Lori Gormley (deceased), Mark Swingle and Mary Caye McCourt, and Dr Janine Swingle (deceased).

A Celebration of Life will be scheduled in the future.
