Walter, “Sonny”, was born March 16, 1929 in Newark, NJ and lived in Hillside and Union, NJ before moving to Bridgewater forty-two years ago to raise his family. Walter was an avid railfan. He shared his fondness and encyclopedic knowledge of railroading with friends and family and was proud of the fact that he had traveled the entire continental US by train. Walter, a first generation American, celebrated his German heritage and loved listening to polka music. He was proud to serve his country during the Korean War, earning the rank of corporal while receiving the Meritorious Service Award. Walter was an electrician for the Lehigh Valley Railroad for twenty years -- a job he would often reminisce about.
