Virginia Mae Wicks, 90, died peacefully on September 11, 2026.

Born in Hillside, New Jersey to the late Stephen and Genevieve Martinkovic, she went on to graduate from Springfield High School and work for New Jersey Bell. Virginia met the love of her life, Donald Wicks, and the two were married in 1953. They settled to Millington before raising their family in Milford. The Wicks family developed over 100 acres of property and Virginia was the overseer of it all. Making sure her family was well taken care of and keeping an eye on every project, she was an intricate part of what kept everything together. The houses still stand on Sleepy Hollow Lane and she was fortunate enough to recently see the fruits of her family’s labor and meet the current owners of some of the land.

Mr. and Mrs. Wicks retired to Sarasota Florida in in 1984 and spent time going back and forth to Texas where their son’s started a bagel shop. Bringing a little bit of New Jersey flair to Texas, she still kept an eye on the shop and helped her son’s turn it into a staple that still stands today. In 1995 she lost her beloved husband Donald and moved permanently to Texas to be with her sons. She took a more prominent role at the bagel shop, and just like back in Jersey, she was an overseer of all, making sure her boys were okay.

She loved playing Bingo and spending quality time with her family, especially her granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Donald Wicks and her dear son Mark Stephen Wicks.

Surviving are her devoted son, Donald Wicks, and her cherished granddaughters Laura Wicks and Sarah Wicks.

Interment will take place at 11:00AM on Friday, September 18, 2026 at Bound Brook Cemetery, 500 Mountain Avenue, Bound Brook.
