Thomas M. Nee, Sr., 83, died peacefully on December 18, 2022.
Born in Brooklyn, New York to the late William and Elizabeth Nee (Jennings), he was a graduate of St. Augustine High School and went on to serve his country in the United States Army. Thomas then received his undergraduate degree at Fordham University in 1962. In his early years at college, he met the love of his life, Margaret “Peggy” Walker. The two were married settled to Bridgewater where they raised their family. Mr. Nee went to graduate school at New York University where he was the recipient of the Maurice Rich award for the best thesis in the field of taxation. He then received his Juris Doctor from Seton Hall University in 1973 and went on to practice corporate law. He sat on the advisory board at Seton Hall after Dean Hobbs requested his expertise.
Mr. Nee began his career at Richard-Vicks Inc. in New York City and then SCM Corporation in New York where he was the Assistant Treasurer Director of Taxes. He then spent the rest of his career with American Home Products in New York and then Madison, New Jersey, one of the world’s largest research-based pharmaceutical and healthcare companies. He served as TEI International President in 1987/88 following many years of active membership at both the Institute and Chapter levels. Following his tenure as TEI President, he served two terms in the IRS Commissioner’s Advisory Group. He retired as the Vice President of Taxes and devoted himself to assuring the integrity of the compliance and audit of sixty domestic and 110 foreign corporations for decades. His job had him travel all around the world, almost everywhere but Iceland, and he had his loving wife by his side any chance he could.
The Nee family were parishioners of The Church of The Immaculate Conception in Somerville where Mr. Nee was the past president of the Holy Name Society. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Somerville Council #1432.
Tom was an avid golfer and he was a former member at Raritan Valley Country Club before moving to Manasquan and joining Toms River Country Club. As a snowbird to their home in Naples, he was currently a member at Imperial Country Club. He still enjoyed time with his golf group that would do an annual outing to the Dominican Republic or in Florida for almost twenty years running. He was an avid New York Giants fan, no matter where he lived, he was a Brooklyn boy at heart. Traveling with his wife and family outside of work, he enjoyed cruises, and getting to spend time together. Tom was a serious man, with a loud laugh that got everyone’s attention. He was a loyal friend who had relationships that spanned decades.
The greatest gift in his life was his children and grandchildren. Being a grandpa brought the Nees back to New Jersey often, to spend summers fishing and boating. He devoted his time to each of his grandchildren’s interest and found joy in the quality time they spent together.
Surviving are his beloved wife, Peggy Nee, his loving children, Tommy and wife Kim, Teresa, Kevin and significant other Jennifer, his adored grandchildren, Samantha, Jason, Felix, and Kevin, as well as his dear siblings, Bernard Nee, Joan Gardner, Loretta McConnell, and Mary Ann Jones, as well as his many nieces, nephews, extended family, esteemed colleagues, and dear friends
