Thelma Allen, daughter of Ida Morris and Jonathan Hunt Kugler, died on March 25, 2018. Born on 8/18/1921, Mrs. Allen was predeceased by her husband of 46 yrs., C. Eugene Allen, who died in 1988. She graduated from Somerville High School in 1939 and worked as secretary to architect Jay C. VanNuys.
January 4th 1942, she married C. Eugene Allen and they moved to the home her husband and father built in Belle Mead, NJ, where they raised their 3 children. When he retired, they traveled full time in their trailer for 8 years, including driving themselves to Alaska twice.
Thelma was an active member of the Ladies' Auxiliary of Montgomery Twp. Volunteer Fire Co. #1, Harlingen Reformed Church Sunday School, choir, and women's service groups. She served as church secretary there for nearly 30 combined years before retiring in 2000 and subsequently moving to Ridge Oak Senior Housing in Basking Ridge.
A Memorial Celebration of her life will take place on Saturday, May 19 at 11am at Harlingen Reformed Church in Belle Mead, NJ. She is survived by her children, Jim Allen (Joanne) of Hillsborough, NJ, Gene Allen (Seraphine) of Allentown, NJ, and Pam Helwig (Laurence) of Donalsonville, GA, 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation in her name to the Harlingen Church Memorial Fund, or to Morris Hall or Ascend Hospice, whose staff provided loving, familial care during her final years.
