Susan Kneafsey

Susan Kneafsey, 83, died peacefully on October 28, 2023.

Born in Phillipsburg, New Jersey, and raised in Asbury by the late Herman and Helene Grefe (née Haas), she was a graduate of North Hunterdon High School in 1958. She attended college at Rowan University, formerly known as Glassboro State College, also in New Jersey, where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Education.

In addition to being a teacher, Susan took pride in her role as a mother and was dedicated to raising her family. She also worked as an administrative assistant for Weichert Realtors in Basking Ridge.

She was a long-time parishioner of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church in Bernardsville, where she sang in the choir. Along with her love of the church and her family, she also enjoyed music. She played the accordion and was fond of polka music in celebration of her German heritage.

She was preceded in death by her husband John Kneafsey and first husband William Plenge.

Surviving are her loving children, daughter Ann Marie McKay and husband Scott, son John Kneafsey and wife Marlene, son David Kneafsey and wife Lisa, son Kevin Kneafsey, son Bill Plenge and partner Karen Asson, son Matt Kneafsey, daughter Kathy Plenge, and son Christian Kneafsey and wife Rebecca, her grandchildren Jason and wife Jenn, Meghan and husband Kyle, Shaun and wife Kelly, Ryan and wife Kelsey, Caitlyn, Colleen and husband Joe, Emily and Caroline, her great-grandchildren Dominic, Landon, Teigan, Charlotte, Brayden and Oliver, as well as extended family and friends.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00PM on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at Cusick Funeral Home, 80 Mountain Avenue, Somerville. A prayer service will be held at 7:00PM.

Inurnment will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, November 3, 2023, at Holy Cross Cemetery, 145 Mt. Airy Road, Basking Ridge.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Peapack-Gladstone Fire Department or to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
