Susan Lynn Flint, 69, died on October 4, 2022.
Susan was the eldest child of the late Roy and Norma Albers (nee Andreason); she was born in Brooklyn, New York on January 2, 1953.
Susan's early childhood summers were filled with memories of camping and swimming on the islands of Lake George. The remainder of her summers were spent with her grandparents (MorMor and MorFar) living, dancing, learning life's lessons with her fellow Swedish Americans in Vasa Park, NJ.
Susan was an active member of the Swedish community at Vasa Park, spending several years as Santa Lucia and a Swedish folk dancer. She was a graduate of Cornwall, N.Y. High School, Class of 1971. Susan went on to attend State University of New York - Fredonia (SUNY) where she earned dual B.S. degrees in Political Science and History, and later earned two additional degrees: a B.S. in Computer Science at SUNY New Paltz and an Associates in Medical Coding at Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC).
After her first Bachelors, she married Gregory Woods in 1974 in New Windsor, NY. They welcomed her first daughter, Jaclyn, in 1979. Susan devoted herself to taking care of Jaclyn, who has special needs, after the death of her first husband.
In the spring of 1986, Susan married Fred Flint in Gardiner, NY. His career brought them to Maryland, where, later that year, they welcomed their daughter, Samantha, in time for Christmas. A few years later, in 1989, they welcomed Susan’s third daughter, Danielle.
In the early 90’s, Fred’s career then brought them to NJ where they put down roots in Branchburg. Susan was active in all her children’s activities; from being a swim team mom, hosting pool parties, sewing homemade Halloween costumes, and running a co-ed scouting troop at Jaclyn’s school for the disabled. Susan was especially dedicated to Girl Scouts (as a former girl scout herself); she was Danielle’s troop leader and the Outdoor Coordinator for the Rolling Hills Girl Scout council for several years, where she planned many Camporees and events. She also worked part time for the Somerset Parks commission for several years.
After over a decade in Branchburg, Fred’s career moved them to sunny St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands. They adjusted to the relaxed island lifestyle and, much to Susan’s delight, the endless beach days. Susan had many adventures there, including hiking to pristine secluded beaches, taking up golf lessons, and even participating in several triathlons. Susan made sure to come home to Branchburg frequently to reconnect with friends and family and never missed hosting her big annual Swedish Christmas party.
In 2009, Susan and Fred parted ways, which brought Susan back to Branchburg. In this new chapter, she became very active in the local community. She rekindled her joy of gardening and worked in the garden department of Home Depot. She was an active board member of the Branchburg Community Garden where she made many dear friends, helped create a wheelchair accessible garden bed and donated produce to the local food pantry in Somerville. She also was a member of the Branchburg Women’s Club, where she helped with community events and enjoyed ladies’ luncheons.
Throughout Susan’s life, she was an avid birdwatcher and her gardens attracted many birds. She participated in the documentation of bird migrations through the National Audubon Society. She enjoyed crafting and quilting and made many beautiful quilts over the decades. She loved logic-based computer and video games, including her favorite series – Zelda. She did a crossword puzzle daily, kept up with news and politics, and never stopped learning. Susan had a love for animals, especially dogs, and always had one by her side.
Susan’s love of travel brought her to the Grand Canyon, the Mediterranean, Mexico, the Canadian Rockies, Alaska, countless Caribbean islands, and beyond. Her most cherished vacation was a Scandinavian adventure when she brought her children to Sweden to meet their relatives experience the culture and food of her ancestors.
She was preceded in death by her parents Roy and Norma Albers and her uncle Paul Albers – of whom she was especially fond.
Surviving are her loving daughters: Jaclyn Woods, Samantha deBlasi (Grayson), and Danielle Axelrod (Danny), her brothers Robert “Bobby” Albers and Roy Albers Jr. (Robyn), as well as her extended family and friends.
