Steven P. Walter, 49, of Chicago, Ill., died Sunday evening, October 10, 2010. at Rush University Medical Center, Illinois. He was born in Somerville, NJ., October 16, 1960. He granuated from Immaculata High School in 1978. He attended the University of Scranton, where he received BS and Masters degrees in both Economics/Finance and History, graduating. He pursued a PhD at Ohio State University. Steve moved to Illinois where he was an Economist for the State. He became the Deputy Commission, City of Chicago, Department of Environment and finally worked as the Deputy Commissioner of Energy, City of Chicago from 2003 until present.

Steven was a Board Member of several energy related associations and alliances. He enjoyed his work and the prospects of green energy use. Some of his specialties were energy management, regulatory policy, renewable energy and energy efficiency. He loved to travel and was a voracious reader, enjoying all types of books. He collected stamps, coins
and fine wine and he had a love of classic movies. He also enjoyed cooking and a wide variety of music.

He is survived by his sister, Christine Walter and her husband, Michael Milewski of Morristown, NJ, his brother, Kevin Walter and his wife, Donna of Somerville, NJ, his sister, Amy Graham and her husband, Michael of Pawcatuck, Ct, his niece, Sarah Milewski of NYC, his nephew, Christopher
Milewski of Morristown, NJ., numerous other family members and loving friends.

Steven was predeceased by his parents, Charles M. Walter and Alice L. (Murphy) Walter, and his sister Laura A. Walter, all of Somerville, NJ.

A Mass of Chrsitian Burial will be celebrated 9:30am on Thursday, October 28 at the Immaculate Conception Church, 35 Mountain Ave, Somerville

Donations can be made in his memory to the National Cancer Society.
