Steven Carrano, 63, died suddenly on November 4, 2023.
Born in Brooklyn, New York to the late Carmine J. and Bernadetta Carrano, he was
raised in Plainfield, where he graduated from Plainfield High School. Steven had a
lifelong mechanical inclination, starting at the age of 14 when he started working at
his family gas station. With this inherent ability to understand mechanics came the
inevitable need for speed.
Along with his family, he was mentored by his godfather Walter Janowicz who
introduced him to boating. The time spent together working on the boat gave
Steven another passion, not just for boating but a profound love of the ocean.
He learned that hard work could give you a skillset to love your job for the rest of
your life. The time spent working on projects like small appliances and two stroke
engines fueled Steven’s desire to constantly evolve with the industry and
understand everything thrown his way. He went on to put himself through NJIT for
Mechanical Engineering and brought his need for speed with him. Steven was
known for riding his honda dirt bike around campus, and even up the campus
stairs.
After graduation he gained experience working for HVAC companies and knew he
brought his inherent skill set with him to every job. Steven knew giving his best
work would lead to his goal of opening up his own business. Shortly thereafter he
went on to start Carrano Air HVAC. His company was an extension of the
dedication he had to working hard to take care of himself and his family. Carrano
Air HVAC was known for the highest level of quality which shows in every job he
did.
Steven wasn’t just a perfectionist, he knew that when things were done right, they
worked. That approach applied to everything he did throughout his life. It can
translate to why he was so fearless when it came to racing his bikes. His Evil
Knievel spirit had him race for Ducati and in the Isle of Man 2 times. Steven’s bike
collection was one of a kind, as his ability to understand and customize his rides
was one of the perks of being so mechanically inclined. He was a jack of all trades
and hyper focused on detail, building his own dream home and knowing it was
done right. Steven needed a space to work on his projects and enjoy time with his
cherished family and friends. The Carrano’s enjoyed having their loved ones over
and enjoying food and spending quality time together. He believed in balance and
was incredibly calm for a man who enjoyed fast cars, bikes, or anything with an
engine. On the other hand Steven also enjoyed high fashion ,being impeccably
dressed from head to toe. For all that truly knew him he was the best dressed man
at the party.
He was a Sunday drive kind of guy, getting into his AMG G63s while listening to
his favorite techno music. Steven never grew out of his need for speed, he grew
with it. Collecting notable chronicles, cars, and motorcycles he always had a new
project. Steven enjoyed traveling and sitting by the pool and creating memories on
excursions such as riding ATV’s, cliff diving, and boating. He also enjoyed Sport
Shooting where his eye for perfection gave him a competitive edge. Steven was a
gentleman who loved his family. He believed in standing up for himself and was a
proud American who worked hard to be self-made. His decision to work for
himself in turn created jobs and offered opportunities for others to grow and work
for themselves. His legacy will live on in the profound impact he had on so many.
He was preceded in death by his parents Carmine J. and Bernadetta Carrano, his
dear brother Carmine Carrano, and a nephew Joseph Carrano.
Surviving are his beloved wife Grace Carrano nee Locsin, his loving children Julia,
Nicholas, Antonio, Michael, Joseph William, and Thomas-Jon, his dear siblings
