Shirley Virginia Clark VanderVort was the fourth child born to the late Elwood M. Sr. and Addie Mae VanNess Clark on October 11, 1921 in Somerville. She graduated from Somerville High School in 1940 and married Oscar VanderVort on April 11, 1942. They lived in Somerville until his death on July 2, 1967. Their union produced two daughter, Darlene and Melissa.

Mrs. VanderVort was predeceased in death by her parents; brothers, Elwood M. Clark Jr., Walter B. Clark Sr. and Charles L. Clark; beloved sisters, Erma E. Clark, Helen H. Miller and Addie L. Simpson and godson Howard Kent Bailey. Left to cherish her memories are daughters Darlene Darling and Melissa Eldridge (Gregory), son-in-law David; four grandsons, Jason, Michael, William and Ryan and one granddaughter, Whitney, a great grandson, Jason (Baby J), her sister Barbara A. Bailey (Howard), Adeline Clark (sister-in-law), George Miller (brother-in-law), William (Bill) Simpson (brother-in-law),goddaughter Wendelin Rudolph, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation on Monday, September 2, from 5pm to 8pm at the Cusick Funeral Home, Somerville and on Tuesday, September 3, beginning at 10am, followed by a Funeral Service at 10:30am at the funeral home. Entombment Franklin Memorial Park, No. Brunswick.
