Shirley C. Marlatt

June 1, 1934 — August 19, 2024

Shirley C. Marlatt, nee Clark, 90, died peacefully surrounded by her family on August 19, 2024.

A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend she leaves behind a legacy of love, creativity, and dedication. Born in Morristown, NJ, to the late Edward and Mary Clark, Shirley grew up with a passion for life and learning. She graduated from high school in 1952 and soon after met the love of her life, George Marlatt Jr., while both working at Sears. They married in 1956 and moved to Hillsborough, NJ, where they built a beautiful life together for 64 years.

While raising her four children, Shirley pursued her education, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Douglass College, a testament to her determination and love for learning. A devout Catholic, Shirley was an active parishioner of St. Joseph's Church in Hillsborough, where her faith was a guiding force in her life.

While Shirley wasn’t working as a customer service agent at Johnson & Johnson in Skillman she was an accomplished artist who loved to paint and sketch, finding joy in the beauty of the world around her. She was a proud member of the Red Hat Ladies Social Club, the Ladies Auxiliary of Woods Road Firehouse #3 and Hillsborough Senior Citizens Chapter B. Her community involvement and vibrant spirit touched the lives of many.

An avid gardener, Shirley found peace and happiness in tending to her plants. She and George shared a love of travel, exploring 48 states together in their adventures across the country. Winters in their Florida home and summers in LBI were highlights of their journey together.

Above all, Shirley cherished her role as a grandmother. She loved babysitting her grandchildren, attending their games and events, and creating handmade Christmas stockings for each member of the family—a cherished tradition that will continue to warm their hearts.

She is predeceased by her parents Edward and Mary Clark, her beloved husband George Marlatt Jr., and her son-in-law Andrew Charnuska.

Surviving are her loving children June, Thomas and his wife Sherry, Carolyn and her husband Adam, Nancy and her husband Mark, as well as her adoring Grandchildren David and his wife Suzanne, Kimberly, Kevin, Melissa, Brooke, Ariel and her husband Anthony, Cole, and her great-grandchild Guillermo, with another great-grandchild a baby girl on the way.

Shirley Marlatt's life was a tapestry of love, devotion, and creativity. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her spirit will live on in the memories and hearts of her family and friends.
