Savario “Sam” Gerard Patullo, age 91 died on Monday March 7, 2021 at home with his family by his side.
Sam was born on April 11, 1929 to Nicola “Nick” Patullo and Benedetta “Tessie” Patullo (DeNicola), and was a lifelong resident of Bridgewater, New Jersey.
He and his wife Marie Patullo (Liptak) were married for 65 years.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his twin sister Mollie (Rodamski) of Bound Brook.
He is survived by his wife; two children Nick (Laurie) of Hillsborough NJ and Nancy (Steven) Turner of Fremont, CA. Sam has 3 grandchildren, Michael, Stephanie, and Kenneth.
Following his graduation from Somerville High School, Sam worked as a machinist for the Brook Machine Shop. For the next 35 years until his retirement Sam followed his Father’s footsteps and worked as a carpenter for the International Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners, Local 455 located in Somerville.
As a Union carpenter he built many well known corporate facilities located throughout Somerset County.
Sam and his father Nick, along with the assistance from other family members built the family home in which he lived for 54 years. His children were so honored that they lived in the house their Father built.
Sam’s true passion though was working outdoors, meticulously landscaping his property. Locally he was known as the “man who diligently maintained his yard”, and his efforts frequently solicited admiration from passersby who appreciated his efforts.
A man of few words, Sam enjoyed his time with friends through the Monte Carmelo Society of Bound Brook where he loved to cook Italian red sauce, and sausage & peppers for fellow members. During his retirement he enjoyed his friends from the “Middlesex Breakfast Club” who regularly discussed current events and politics over a morning meal.
Sam was known for his thoughtfulness and generosity. He was a popular patient and patron who would frequently arrive at his Doctor’s office or local bank with Italian pastries and coffee for the entire staff. When Sam ran into friends while running local errands, he enjoyed treating them to breakfast or lunch, and the opportunity to “catch up”. He was always willing to help a friend in need.
Although a very humble person, his favorite hobby was talking about how proud he was of his children and grandchildren to anyone who would listen.
A private funeral will be held on March 13,
2021 with entombment at the St. Bernard Mausoleum, Bridgewater NJ.
