Ronald Anthony Werner, 87, died peacefully on December 18,2023.
Born in Flushing, Queens, New York to the late Henry J.V. Werner and Marjorie Bates Werner and raised in Douglaston, he was a graduate of Bayside High School, Class of 1953. He went on to attend the U.S. Merchant Marine academy at Kings Point, graduating with his Bachelor of Science degree in 1957. That same year he entered into active duty with the United States Navy and spent a year during the Korean War on the U.S.S. Tolowa (AFT-116). He was honorably discharged and went on to work for Mobil Chemical Co./Valspar Corporation until his retirement in 1994.
Ron loved to travel, and collect coins, stamps, and various items from his travels. He enjoyed the quality time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren Mr. Werner was a former resident of Whitehouse Station, NJ and lived in Maryland, Sasebo Japan, Los Angeles, Bridgewater, and Florida, before most recently moving to Nevada. He enjoyed playing golf and softball in his retirement and staying active in the nice weather.
He was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children Dorothy Elaine Sturniolo Wener and his second wife Lucille Elizabeth Miller
Surviving are his loving children, Brian Werner (Chris), Douglas Werner (Tina), Vincent Werner (Kim), and Henry Wener (Lisa), his step daughter, Kimberly Raffensparger as well as his grandchildren, dear sister Phyllis Werner Huntley, and partner Joyce Brandt, and his six soon to be seven adoring great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday June 29, 2024 beginning at 11 AM at Zion Episcopal Church in Douglaston, NY.
