Roberta (Bobbie) Cornyn, nee Crane, 80, entered into eternal life on February 16, 2020.
A woman of deep and persistent faith, Bobbie spent her life in joyful service as a devoted wife, mom, grandmother, and educator. She especially loved her role as Nana for the past 23 years. Her grandchildren will always treasure sleep-overs, Disney trips and cruises, movies, pizza dinners, epic Easter egg hunts and egg wars, hand-sewn Halloween costumes, Christmas card pictures, handmade rosaries, cards just to say "hi", button-sewing lessons before college, and Nana learning to text and finding them on Facebook.
Bobbie treasured her time with her family and friends. She loved making beautiful jewelry and rosaries. She enjoyed listening to music- especially anything Irish or from the 50's and watching basketball, NCIS, Jeopardy, and Hallmark movies. She made every holiday special and fun, most especially, Christmas.
A born teacher, Bobbie was committed to working tirelessly in, and advocating for, Catholic Education. While serving as Sister Kevin in the Congregation of the Daughters of Divine Charity, Bobbie taught in schools in New York City and Staten Island while earning her education degree from Seton Hall University. Her call to family life began with her marriage to her sweetheart, John, on June 17, 1967.
After the birth of her two daughters and a move to New Jersey, Bobbie resumed her teaching career, serving as a teacher and/or Principal in Immaculate Conception School in Somerville, Sacred Heart School in Manville, and St. Mary's/St. Joseph's and Holy Family School in Bound Brook. Her students always held a special place in her heart and she would do anything she could to support them. She was recognized as a Distinguished Leader by the Diocese of Metuchen in 1992 and earned her Master's Degree with highest honors from Fordham in May 1996.
She is survived by her loving and grateful family- John, her husband of 52 years; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Bill Formisano; daughter, Allison Cornyn; her adored grandchildren, Liam, Evan, Aidan, and Colin Formisano and Lucy and Kevin Cornyn, and four dear nieces. Bobbie was predeceased by her beloved brother and sister-in-law, Allan and Joan Crane.
Viewing is Friday, February 21st at Cusick Funeral Home, 80 Mountain Ave., Somerville from 4-7pm. Mass of Christian Burial is 9:30am Saturday at Immaculate Conception Church, 35 Mountain Ave., Somerville. Interment to follow at St. Bernard's Cemetary, Bridgewater.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Bobbie's name to Immaculate Conception School, 41 Mountain Avenue, Somerville, NJ 08876 to support tuition assistance.
