Robert C. Stewart, 76, died suddenly on July 18, 2023.
Robert C. Stewart, Jr., was born January 17, 1947, to his parents, Robert C. Stewart, Sr. and Anne Mazutis Stewart. His childhood and teen years were spent with friends and family in Union and Cranford.
As he started his career, Bob followed in his father’s footsteps and became an iron worker. He worked “raising steel” for several years in New Jersey and then turned his eyes toward a higher role in the construction business, many stories higher. Bob was fascinated with the New York steel erection business, and he got in quickly and successfully. The list of “his” buildings includes some of the most prominent addresses in the city. After a few years, his success caught the eye of ABC TV resulting in an interview for “Real People” all the way on top of the steel structure Bob was erecting at the time. In all, Bob was involved in constructing over 100 buildings.
Bob’s expertise in construction also caused him to be called up to help with the 9/11 disaster cleanup. He came in and brought his many contacts to help with the work. Living in a trailer on site, Bob directed the cleanup for almost 3 months. He was also on site when the workers raised the iron cross they uncovered, standing with his hard hat on his side and his head bowed for such an inspiration in the midst of utter destruction. And in his golf cart, he escorted many of the visitors to the site showing them the progress made with the cleanup.
In spite of his busy life, Bob loved to be with family. He has sisters, cousins, nephews, and nieces mourning the loss of Uncle Bob. In addition to family, Bob has a breadth of friends, business partners, and clients who feel the loss of a talented source and friend. He affected many, many lives in many, many ways.
For his fun, Bob loved being on the water in his boats. He always had one boat or another and loved taking his friends and family water skiing, tubing, or just riding along. But when he wasn’t on the water, he was either watching golf in person, on the TV, or on the course himself, hoping NOT to be in the water then.
The loss of Bob Stewart will affect many people’s lives. The family would like to request that any remembrance of Bob be made in the form of donations to the Tunnel2Towers organization, Donate Online , in Bob’s memory.
And as Bob used to say: That’s 1111 Old Country Road, Westbury.
