Robert Edward Caulfield, "Red", 88, died peacefully on January 2, 2025.
Born in Rahway, NJ to the late Thomas and Elizabeth Caulfield, nee Costello, he was a graduate of Rahway High School. As one of ten kids, he grew up resourceful, eager to work and learn. There, he met the love of his life, Jane Galganske, and they began their courtship. He went on to proudly enlist in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in October of 1959. Mr. Caulfield soon after married Jane in January of 1960 and they have been inseparable since.
He began his career with Pennsylvania Railroad before his enlistment and returned after his service where he worked on Teletype Machine Repair in New York City. The company evolved into Amtrak where he joined the line in New Jersey and worked in the C&S Department, visiting stations and outposts to assure signal and telephone lines were in order. Red’s 44-year career saw him through a majority of the lines Amtrak ran and had him evolve with the technology as it advanced over time.
Red was a jack of all trades, there was no home repair or renovating he couldn’t handle, and he enjoyed spending time doing yardwork, especially riding his mower. He was able to perform maintenance on all of his cars, even replacing his own breaks at 80 years old, his cars outlasted their standard use. Most of all, he enjoyed traveling with his wife, especially Caribbean Cruises. They visited Europe and enjoyed the sites of Germany, Italy, and England, creating memories that last a lifetime. The quality time spent with his family will be cherished long after he is gone.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Tommy, Jack, Marilyn, Joan, and Harold.
Surviving are his beloved wife Jane Caulfield, his loving son Robert Michael “Bob” Caulfield and wife Elizabeth “Betsy”, his daughter Jane E. Caulfield Cecherio and husband Daniel, siblings Donnie, Eddie, Margaret, and Elizabeth, sisters in law, Harriet, Linda, Margie, Claire, and Loretta, brother in law, Jack Galganske and wife Tina and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
