Robert L. Wechsler, 82, of Bridgewater, passed away peacefully at home in the arms of his family on Saturday, January 29, 2011. He was born in Indianapolis, IN and moved to New Jersey in 1951 to serve in the Army.
He was a graduate of Notre Dame University with a degree in Chemical Engineering and was employed by Union Carbide in Bound Brook, NJ for 20 years. Following his years at Carbide, he was employed at PepsiCo, Inc. in Philadelphia, PA, where he helped develop their first plastic bottle. He was a parishioner and usher at Immaculate Conception Church in Somerville. Bob was predeceased by his parents, Robert J. and Ethel E. Wechsler of Indianapolis, IN, and his brother Richard and sister, Dorothy, also of Indianapolis, IN. He is survived by his loving sister, Mary Roney of Indianapolis.
Bob is survived by his “Lady” and loving wife of 49 years, Chesla Kotwick Wechsler as well as his devoted children, Mary Lou Welch, Robin Smither (husband, Jim) , Robert N. Wechsler, and Chesla C. Wechsler (husband Christopher
Olszewski). He leaves behind his very special grandchildren, Brynn, Molly, Paul and Maureen Welch and Amy and Sean Smither as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held from 4 PM to 7 PM on Monday, January 31 at the Cusick Funeral Home in Somerville. A Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, February 1, at 9 AM at Immaculate Conception Church, 35 Mountain Ave., Somerville.
