Robert E. Kleppinger, 81, died Wednesday (Aug. 31, 2011) at home.

Born in Beatrice, Neb., he grew up in Beatrice, David City and Lincoln, Neb. After graduating from the University of Nebraska with a degree in Electrical Engineering, he and his wife Jeanette (also deceased) moved to New Jersey. He remained, however, a lifelong Nebraska football fan. He also received a Master’s Degree in Mathematics from Stevens Institute.

He was a semiconductor design and development engineer at RCA for forty years, retiring in 1991. An accomplished trumpet player, he played with dance bands in Nebraska as a young man and, more recently, with the Raritan Valley Symphonic Band. Family was very important to him, including his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

He is survived by his daughter Judith Ann Kleppinger of Bridgewater; his son and daughter-in-law William E. Kleppinger and Melanie Davis of Somerville; and his granddaughters Brianna, Paige, and Tai Davis-Kleppinger.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Bridgewater United Methodist Church, 651 Country Club Rd., Bridgewater. Interment will be at Bound Brook Cemetery. Visitation is from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Cusick Funeral Home, Somerville.

Memorial gifts may be given to the Somerset Medical Center Foundation, 110 Rehill Avenue, Somerville, N.J. 08876 with a request that they be used for the Nardoni Pavilion.
