Richard W. Tekin, “Bob”, 88, died peacefully on July 18, 2023.
Born in Bayonne to the late John Frances Tekin and Catherine Horgan, he grew up in Jersey City, and moved to North Arlington in his early teens. He was a graduate of Queen of Peace High School, class of 1953, where he met the love of his life, Jean Jankin whom he was wed to for 66 years. Bob went on to join the National Guard in 1955, and served his country being called to active duty in 1957. After his honorable discharge, he attended night school at Fairleigh Dickenson University, while working full time to support his family at Worthington Pump in Harrison, and SD Leidesdorf. He completed his postgraduate studies and was employed as a controller for Multitone Electronics and Control Products in East Hanover. He then went on to his own private practice of serving small businesses and tax services. In retirement, he loved investing in the stock market and received personal satisfaction and pride when he executed a trade prior to his guru Jim Cramer (CNBC) recommendations. “Booyah”.
The Tekin family first resided in Rutherford and then settled in Bridgewater in 1969 where they raised their family. Bob was a parishioner of St. Bernard of Clairvaux Church in Bridgewater and worked on the finance committee that helped to establish the new church. He and his wife helped with collection counting after Mass on Sundays. Bob enjoyed his second home in the Poconos and many weekends skiing with family and friends. He enjoyed traveling with Jean and they visited many countries during their retirement. Most of all, he enjoyed the quality time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first born son, Thomas in 1974, and his dear brother John.
Surviving are his beloved wife, Jean Tekin, his loving children, Eileen Kucharski and husband Edward, Kathleen Whalen and husband Vincent, and Michael Tekin, his cherished grandchildren, Kevin and wife Annie, Michael Patrick, Karen and husband David, Katelynn and husband Zachary, Kathleen, Thomas, Vivianne, and Michael Vincent, his dear siblings Kenneth Tekin and Edward McGarrigle and wife Joanna, sister in law Beatrice, as well as his nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 5:00PM on Sunday, July 23, 2023. at Cusick Funeral Home, 80 Mountain Avenue, Somerville, New Jersey.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00AM on Monday, July 24, 2023, at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Church, 500 U.S. 22, Bridgewater. Family and friends are welcome to gather at the funeral home beginning at 9:00AM.
Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 340 Ridge Road in North Arlington.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Bob’s memory to St Jude’s Research Hospital, Donate Online , or Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Donate Online .
