Richard Wheeler Gordon died at home after a short illness on February 9, 2016. Dick was born in Newark and lived in Murray Hill before moving to Martinsville in 1961. He has resided in Branchburg since 1988. His entire 41 year career was spent working for Gulf Oil Corporation. He began his career as a Secretary moved up to Bookkeeper and retired as a Sales Representative in 1981.

A 1940 graduate of Columbia High School in Maplewood, Mr. Gordon was a former member of the Somerville Elks Lodge #1068 where he was one of the original members of the pool club. His hobbies included golf, where he insisted on walking the 18 holes and excelling at cards and games, relishing teaching his children and grandchildren the art of winning and losing. In his later years, he was an avid crossword puzzle solver and a reader of mysteries and daily newspapers.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mildred Gordon in 1997 and his grandson Adam Grant Rex in 1984. Surviving are his daughters Patrice Rex (husband Douglas) of Middlesex and Christine O'Neill (husband Charles) of East Amwell, 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Visitation will begin at 2pm and conclude with a Memorial Service at 4pm on Saturday, February 20, at the Cusick Funeral Home, Somerville.

Memorial Contributions may be made in Richard Gordon's name to the Martin and Edith Stine Hospice, 49 Veronica Ave., Somerset, NJ 08873
