Richard James Dupras
Age 81
Formerly of Somerville
Richard James Dupras of West Deptford, formerly of Somerville, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, April 21, 2016. Richard was born February 8, 1935 in Bronx NY, the son of Charles and Marie (Cadic) Dupras. He served in the US Navy before graduating from Seton Hall University, later receiving his MBA from St. John’s University. He retired from Ethicon Inc after 33 years.
Richard most loved his family, friends, and faith. Devoted to his bride of 55 years, Beda Joann (Mingle). Loving and proud father to Richard Jr. (Lisa), Thomas (Annemarie), Paul (Leonie), AnnMarie Ellsworth, Maureen (Richard) Curry, John (Elizabeth), Karen (Joseph) Condo, Mary Catherine (Martin) Doherty, and Theresa (Ryan) Conway. Richard was a loving “PopPop Party” to 20 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
A man of great faith, he spent many years serving as a commentator at Immaculate Conception Church in Somerville, where he was also a member of the Holy Name Society. He later did the same at Holy Angels Parish in Woodbury. He served on the Board of Serra International. He was a member of Knights of Columbus as well as B.P.O.E. Richard was a passionate Notre Dame football and Yankee baseball fan, and spent a great deal of his free time watching his children and grandchildren in all of their sports and activities.
Richard could strike up a conversation with anyone, and they would quickly know all about his family. He enjoyed a good poker game, and was notorious for spoiling a good game of Trivial Pursuit by shouting out the answers. His dance moves will live on in his grandchildren, doing “the Dad” at family gatherings. No matter who he was talking with, he ended every conversation with “God Bless.”
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws Elmer and Annabelle Mingle. In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by his brother Charles (Katherine), his sisters Barbara (Joseph) Sewesky and Mary Louise Kennedy, and his sister-in-law Margaret Terry.
