Ranald Cavanaugh Brown, 87, died peacefully on July 13, 2023.
Born in St. Peter’s Hospital in New Brunswick to the late Cavanaugh Eckert Brown and Genevieve Brown, life came full circle as his twin granddaughters were born in the same hospital fifty-two years later.
He was a graduate of Metuchen High School and went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Ranald met the love of his life, Nancy Kelleher, and the two were married in October of 1958. They settled in Martinsville where they raised their family. Mr. Brown began his career in Real Estate working with his dad and shortly after, opened his own Real Estate office in Martinsville, where he dedicated sixty years to serving the area. Many fondly remember the statue of a carousel horse standing in front of his office. He was respected, adored, and loved by many. He was once on the front page of the Chimney Rock Inn’s menu with his picture and the appropriate quote “ Legend of Martinsville”.
He was the two-time President of the Somerset County Board of Realtors (now the Hunterdon Somerset Association of Realtors). He was also a member of the Somerville Elks, Masonic Temple, and Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed collecting stamps, antiques, and Hess Trucks. Ranald enjoyed trips to the Jersey Shore riding the waves at the beach and playing skeeball with his children. He will be fondly remembered and missed by his family, friends, and colleagues.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy Brown in 2015 and his dear son Scott Ranald Brown in 2007, and nephew Rod Weddermann.
Surviving are his loving daughter, Robbin Butler, his cherished granddaughters Megan Jaison Wentzel and Kelly Jasion, his dear sister Gloria Weddermann and husband Ray, nieces and nephew, Laura Weddermann, Lynn Weddermann Estes and husband Joe, Wendy Weddermann Dossey her husband Scott and their daughter Sara, and Gary Brown.
