Age 85
Somerset (Franklin Township)
Patricia (Swanson) Nivison, 85 of Somerset, NJ and Vero Beach, FL passed away peacefully in Florida on February 11 with family at her side.
Pat was a loving wife to her late husband Tom with whom she traveled widely. She served as a selfless caregiver to him during his struggles with Parkinson’s disease until his passing in 2004. Pat was a passionate reader who shared her love of books through a career managing public libraries at Hillsborough and Franklin Townships in NJ, spending 23 years as director of the Franklin library. She graduated from New Jersey College for Women (a.k.a. Douglass College) and was always a proponent of the importance of education. As a lover (and critic) of Rutgers football she proudly displayed the scarlet “R” on her car. Pat was graciously engaging and was happy to strike-up a conversation with almost anyone. She remained vital and independent, which enabled her to spend time with her cherished family.
Pat was predeceased by her husband Thomas and granddaughter Sarah Contreras. She is survived by her sister Clair Mazurak of Bedminster, NJ, her sons Thomas of Tacoma, WA, Theodore of Acton, MA and William of Hillsborough NJ, as well as six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
