Michael Andrew Merdinger of Hillsborough (Flagtown), NJ, passed away on January 18, 2016, surrounded by family. He was 67 years old.

Michael was born in Orange, NJ, and lived in Hillsborough for the last 40 years. He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Hillsborough; his two daughters, Kristin Lee of Middletown, NJ, and Megan Merdinger-Robinson of Hillsborough; his two grandchildren, Mina and Theo Lee; and his brother, William Merdinger of Long Valley, NJ.

In his youth he was an Eagle Scout, and he maintained this spirit of helping others throughout his life. He traveled the country and the world managing the clean-up of contaminated sites through Foster Wheeler and later throughTetra Tech in Morris Plains, NJ, where he retired as an Environmental Manager. He was the Hillsborough Township Administrator, retiring from this position in 2012. He was an active member of Hillsborough Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 and the Hillsborough Rotary Club. He was a dedicated member of the community and held many different offices in the Township, including as Mayor and as a member of the Hillsborough Township Committee, Planning Board, Municipal Utilities Authority, and Environmental Commission.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hillsborough Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 at P.O. Box 111, Flagtown,NJ 08821, and the South Branch Reformed Church at 870 River Road, Hillsborough, NJ 08844. A Memorial Service will be held at the South Branch Reformed Church on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 11:00 am.
