Somerville
Michael Paul LaCosta Sr., 61 years old, of Somerville, New Jersey, passed away on April 29, 2021 after waging a courageous battle with cancer.
Michael, also known as Eagle or Big Mike, was born on July 29, 1959 in Plainfield, NJ and grew up in North Plainfield, NJ. He attended North Plainfield High School and was a proud graduate of Stockton University (formerly Stockton State College).
Big Mike lived his 61 years to the fullest. He enjoyed planning and mapping out the many trips he took with his kids, including several National Parks. He loved to garden and spent countless hours on his boat down the Jersey Shore. His 32 years as a probation officer could have made him a cynic, but Big Mike had steadfast faith in the potential for social services and the government to help those in need. The most amazing father, brother, uncle, godfather, and a loyal friend to so very many, he was always ready with a joke, advice, a piece of pound cake and a cup of coffee, or a listening ear.
He is predeceased by his parents Lucy (née Dell’Olio) and Paul F. LaCosta Sr. and brother-in-law Michael D’Arco. He is survived by his two children, Erin and Michael, his siblings,Mary Ann D’Arco, Lucille Davino and her husband Anthony, Paula LaCosta, Paul F. LaCosta Jr. and his wife Susan, John LaCosta, Robert LaCosta and his wife Vincezina, and his nieces and nephews, Guinevere, Jessica, Angelique, Kelli, Lucy, John Peter, Maggie, Nicholas, Paul III and Isabella, plus several cousins and good friends.
All are welcome to a Visitation at Cusick Funeral Home located at 80 Mountain Ave Somerville, NJ from 5 to 8 pm on Thursday May 6, 2021. For social distancing purposes, his family (ONLY) will attend a funeral service on Friday May 7, 2021 at 10 am at Somerville’s St. John’s Episcopal Church where he was a parishioner.
