Mercedes R. Gorres

Mercedes R. Gorres, 96, joined her Creator peacefully on August 9, 2024.

Born in the city of Kalibo, Aklan, Philippines, she was the eldest of eight children of the late Marcelino and Concepcion Regalado (nee Meñez).

Ched, as she was fondly known to many, became a registered nurse and while in practice, met the love of her life, the late Ramon J. Gorres. They were married in 1958 and settled in Manila where they were blessed with their five children.

Ched and Ramon loved traveling and visited many countries around the world. Ched collected postcards and wrote about the many interesting places she had seen.

In 1977, when Ched lost her beloved husband, she quickly learned to run a business, to continue to provide for her children, while demonstrating fervor and strong faith in God.

Ched was a devout Catholic, loving mother, always praying her rosary to the Blessed Mother Mary and reading the bible in her quiet reflections. In her younger years, she dedicated her time and talent into the mission of Daughters of Mary Immaculate serving underprivileged communities. Ched loved to garden and grow flowers, often making beautiful floral arrangements. She loved watching after her grandchildren and blessing them through prayers. She always reminds everyone about finding happiness in the simple things in life and the power of prayer.

Ched is survived by her loving children, Gary, Nini, Mike and Finina, Ray and Barjo, Jojo and Mae, her adored grandchildren, Nico, Andie, Justin, Matthew, Miguel, Gianna, Mia, James, as well as her extended family.

Visitation will be held from 8:30AM to 9:30AM on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at Cusick Funeral Home, 80 Mountain Avenue, Somerville.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00AM following the visitation at The Church of The Immaculate Conception, 80 Mountain Avenue, Somerville.

Committal service will be held following at Somerset Hills Memorial Park, 95 Mt. Airy Road, Basking Ridge.
