Mary A. Walsh died July 29 in Conneticut. She had been living with her son Samuel J. Romano in Shelton, CT since 2007. Mary was born in Brooklyn, NY on May 14, 1916. Her father was Antonio Granata and her mother was Josephine (Arenzullo). They imigrated from Sicily. The family moved to Raritan where Mary grew up with her sisters Rose (Orlando), Nancy (Higgins), Lena (Angelone) and a brother Joseph Granata. After graduating from Somerville High School, Mary worked for a time in Essex, CT as a graphic artist and painter. She married Samuel J. Romano Sr. of Bound Brook in 1942. He was a Veteran of WW II and later taught in Dunellen until his retirement and death in 1975. Mary later met and married William Walsh of Bound Brook and lived there together until his passing in 1993. Mr. Walsh was also a Veteran of WWII and had worked at American Cyanamid until his retirement. Mary was the last surviving member of her parents and siblings.

She is survived by her sons Guy W. Romano of Saylorsburg, PA and Samuel J. Romano of Shelton, CT., two grandsons Christopher G. and Andrew I. Romano and a great grandson Zaccharia Fuls-Romano. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30am on Thursday, August 4 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Somerville. Interment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Bridgewater. Visiting hours are from 2-4pm and 7-9pm on Wednesday, August 3 at the Cusick Funeral Home, 80 Mountain Ave., Somerville.
