Mary Elizabeth O'Connor

Mary Elizabeth O’Connor Nee Fitzgerald, 97, of Branchburg, died peacefully at home on March 4, 2022. Born and raised in Plainfield to the late William B. and Gladys Fitzgerald Nee Buickerood. After attending St. Mary’s grammar school, she went on to graduate Plainfield High School in 1943. She then attended The Scudder Business School in Manhattan. In 1947 she married the late Robert O’Connor and raised their family in South Plainfield. Mary was widowed at a young age losing her husband in 1963. She then settled to Bridgewater in 1966 before moving to Branchburg in 1987. She worked as an Administrative Assistant at National Starch in Manville before her retirement in 1994. Mrs. O’Connor was a 20+ year member of the Bridgewater Women’s Club. Mary was also a parishioner of St. Bernard of Clairvaux R.C. Church in Bridgewater for 56 years. She enjoyed quality time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. A lover of the outdoors, she enjoyed gardening and walking. Surviving are her loving children, Robert O’Connor and wife Darlene, Michael O’Connor and wife Mary Ellen, Thomas O’Connor and wife Beth Mary, Mark O’Connor and wife Carol, Mary Margaret O’Connor, Ellen O’Connor, and Ann O’Connor and wife Caren, her ten cherished grandchildren, Casey, Kerri, Terence, Michael, Patrick, Courtney, Ursula, Eilis, Shawn, and Christopher, as well as her nineteen great grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Friday, April 8th, 2022 at St. Bernard of Clairvaux RC Church located at 500 U.S. 22 Bridgewater, NJ. Inurnment will follow at Holy Redeemer Cemetery located at 1734 Clinton Ave. South Plainfield, NJ 07080 In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Mary’s memory to Bridgewater Women’s Club College Fund Heart Association
