Mary Margaret Milo (nee Notargiaco) passed away peacefully in her sleep at Foothill Acres nursing home in Hillsborough, NJ on August 1, 2024.
Mary was born on November 15, 1930, in Queens, NY to Francesco and Jenne Notargiaco. Mary resided for many years in Somerville, NJ. She worked as a waitress during her years in Somerville, including at the Sunrise Diner. For the last 11 years, Mary lived at Foothill Acres nursing home in Hillsborough, where she was lovingly cared for by the dedicated health care staff.
Mary was married to Peter Milo, and they raised a family that included a son, James, and two daughters, Sandi and Maria. Mary is predeceased by her husband Peter and her daughters Sandi Milo and Maria Lane. She is survived by her son James Milo, her six grandchildren James and Stanley Somonski, Sandra Prisco (Daniel), Melissa Milo, Kristina Milo, and Domenica D’Imperio (Danny), her great grandchildren, and Leo Mastrobuono (Domenica’s dad).
Mary enjoyed family gatherings and made every effort to attend, even as it became more difficult for her in her later years. She shared family dinners and special occasions, Christmas Eve celebrations and dance recitals, and always regular phone calls, visits, and letters. Mary loved to send little notes to family and friends to thank them, to remember a special day, or just to let them know that she was thinking of them and praying for them.
Mary had a generous and helping spirit. She was a longtime and dedicated volunteer at the SHIP soup kitchen in Somerville. She prepared delicious dishes to be served to the guests, and she always made time to sit and talk with the guests. After Mary moved to the nursing home, she made friends with other residents and enjoyed sharing activities with them – especially Bingo!
Mary’s Catholic faith was important to her. She participated regularly in religious services at the nursing home. In addition to offering prayers for her family, she would pray for fellow residents who asked for her prayers. She also assisted the visiting religious ministers by gathering residents for the weekly rosary group. She got to know the ministers from Mary Mother of God Church well, and she counted them among her closest friends.
Mary had a wonderful sense of humor and an infectious laugh. She loved to tell stories about all the unique people she had known in her life. As Mary would say – “Read my book!” We love you, Mary, and we will remember and miss you. May you rest in peace.
