Mary Wass Gecik, 98, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2015, surrounded by her family. Born and raised in Manville, NJ, she lived in Raritan for 20 years before moving to Bridgewater, NJ, in 1955. Mary was employed by Mack Motors in Bridgewater, was a waitress for many years and was also employed by Somerset County at Raritan Valley Community College and at the Manville nutrition center.
A parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church, Raritan, Mary was a member of its Senior Citizens Club and the Altar Rosary Society. She was an excellent baker, especially for birthdays and holidays, and also loved to crochet, gifting her many beautiful creations to her family members.
Mary was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Francis Gecik, and by her brother Stephen Wass and sisters Margaret Strokus and Elizabeth Michalowski.
She is survived by her daughters Joan Wirzman and fiance Todd Suchla of Apopka FL, Patricia Ronca and her husband Robert of Raritan, her son Robert Gecik and his wife Emilia of Somerset, 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Joseph Wass and wife Margaret of Manville, and her sister Rose Blair of Somerset.
Visitation will be on Thursday, June 11 from 5pm-8pm and on Friday morning, June 12, before Mass from 8:30am to 9:30am at the Cusick Funeral Home, 80 Mountain Ave., Somerville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 12, at 10am at the St. Joseph’s Church, 16 E. Somerset St., Raritan. Interment will follow at St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Route 28, Bridgewater, NJ.
