Mary Ellen DiGiulio, 69, died peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on January 14, 2025.
Born in Hudson, NY to the late Sigurd and Marian (Simmons) Holmquist. She was a graduate of Hudson Senior High School and moved to San Francisco for a short time before beginning a career with General Electric in Schenectady, NY where she met the love of her life, the late Raymond DiGiulio. The two were married and enjoyed traveling together, before having their children and settling down in Brunswick, New York. Mary Ellen was a devoted mother who spent time focusing on raising her children before returning to work in 2003. She was a Health Benefits Administrator with the Office of Children and Family Services for the State of New York State until her retirement.
Mrs. DiGiulio was widowed young; in 1995, she lost the love of her life and went on as a single parent to their two children. Her perseverance during this time was an inspiration to her children. She led by example in her involvement with their lives and commitment to providing joy to all those she came in contact with.
In her retirement she moved to Middleburgh, New York where she found joy in renovating an 1800’s home and the barn to pristine original condition. She enjoyed reading, home improvement projects, tending to her garden, and finding new toys and ways to entertain her grandson Leonardo.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Raymond as well as her dear sister Patricia Porter.
Surviving are her loving children, Justin DiGiulio and partner Mirelly, Meghan DiGiulio, cherished grandson Leonardo, dear sisters Theresa Vinetti and Denise Kelly, as well as her cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
