Age 84
Hillsborough
Marie Lucielle (Hogan) Quick was born on June 23, 1933 and died suddenly at the age of 84 on September 22, 2017. Marie was born in Denver Colorado then adopted and raised by two loving parents who had immigrated from Ireland, Dennis and Josephine Hogan. Both are deceased. Marie said that she felt so lucky to have been chosen to be their only child. Marie was raised in the Catholic Church and attended parochial school up through college at Loretta Heights in Denver. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in English with a minor in Business.
She met her current husband of 52 years (Fred Quick) in Colorado on a blind date set up by the car dealer from whom they had each recently purchased a car. After 2 years of living in Colorado, the family moved to the Fred Quick Family homestead in Hillsborough in 1967.
Marie was many things to a great many people. First and foremost she was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother. She was also a second mother to her children and grandchildren’s friends, a confidant of many and a best friend to all who knew her. During Marie’s time on earth she drove sports cars, rode horses all over the Rocky Mountains and in rodeos as a barrel racer. Marie was best known for her warm and generous spirit. She put holiday baskets together for Hillsborough Social Services that were distributed on holidays, gathered and donated clothing for the Working Women’s Wardrobe, and donated many items to the Vietnam Veterans of America. Marie received the coveted Paul Harris Award from the Hillsborough Rotary club.
Marie’s personal commitment to helping others had her transporting others to doctor’s offices, chemotherapy appointments and being the person at the bedside of someone in the hospital. Marie believed that no one should go through those difficult times alone. Her warm hearted laugh and love of jokes brought smiles to all who knew her.
Marie was an avid reader and loved to write letters, using only “snail mail”. She kept in touch with friends all over the country writing letters late into the night. She never missed a birthday, anniversary or a chance to just say, “Hi and I love you”. She will be greatly missed by all.
Marie was predeceased by her son Mark Quick and her granddaughter Colynne Wyckoff. She is survived by her husband, Fred Quick, her three children, Cindy Quick, Denise Moschette, and Gary Quick, and grandchildren Heather Bahr, Ricky Platt, Kurtis Quick, Marissa Moschette, Kyle Quick, Jacob Quick and Jessica Moschette and a new greatgrandchild, Mackenzie Ryan Bahr.
A funeral service will be held at the South Branch Reformed Church on Friday September 29, 2017. The family will be present to greet guests at 10:00 am and the service will begin at 10:30. After the interment at the church cemetery, there will be a social gathering in the basement of the church with light snacks provided. The family welcomes all who wish to attend.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Fred and Ruth Quick Scholarship Fund in care of Judith Quick, 90 Holland Rd, Far Hills, NJ 07931.
