Margaret Theresa Grasso, 91, of Bridgewater, died peacefully on June 1, 2022, in Somerville. Born in Union City to the late George C. and Julia Berndt (nee Kaiser), she was raised in Kingwood and Bridgewater, and was a graduate of Somerville High School. Margaret was a gifted vocalist from a young age and used her voice to sing in local variety shows alongside a young Leonard Grasso, who ended up being the love of her life, and the two were married in 1955. She worked for the former Granetz Department Store and Deilhs in Finderne, before working for Burkes Clothing Store in Somerville. Margaret and Leonard settled in Raritan where she devoted herself to being a full-time mom to their five children. She was a devout parishioner of St. Ann’s R.C. Church in Raritan where she sang in the choir for years. Margaret and her husband would join local prayer groups and enjoyed time at the YMCA Swim Club, singing, praying, and spending quality time together as a family. Margaret and Leonard volunteered at the VA Lyons Hospital where she would sing to those who served our country. She was known to sing “God Bless America” at the annual John Basilone Parade in Raritan for many years and also sang at Camp Kilmer. Most of all, Margaret was known for her kind heart, devotion to God, and love of family. She and her husband were known to say, it is not goodbye, but so long for now. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Leonard Grasso, Sr. in 2016. Surviving are her loving children, Grace Rice and husband Craig, Leonard Grasso, Jr., Cynthia Kreutz, Ralph Grasso and wife Stephanie, and Thomas Grasso and wife Jennifer, her cherished grandchildren, Katie Ann and husband Ryan, Tim and wife Margie, Emily and husband Tommy, Rebecca and husband Alec, Andrew, Larissa, Alexis, Serena, and Gradyn, her nine great grandchildren, and extended family. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 6, 2022, from 4:00 to 8:00PM at Cusick Funeral Home, 80 Mountain Avenue, Somerville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00AM on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at The Catholic Church of St. Ann, 45 Anderson Street, Raritan.
