Marcial Medina

March 2, 1947 — March 24, 2025

Marcial Medina, 78, died on March 24, 2025.

Born in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, to the late Emiliano and Cleofe Medina (Cabrera), Marcial grew up in New York City, where he graduated from high school in 1965. Immediately after, he answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the U.S. Army. Following basic training, he was deployed to Vietnam, where he bravely served in the infantry.

Upon returning home, Marcial met the love of his life in New York City. Together, they shared 48 years of blissful marriage, raising a loving family. Never one to settle, Marcial pursued higher education, earning a bachelor’s degree in business management. He went on to work at Merrill Lynch for several years before once again recommitting himself to service. He joined the National Guard, fighting with the 69th Infantry Regiment and serving for an incredible 38 years before retiring as a 1st Sergeant in the Field Artillery Battalion.

In retirement, Marcial found joy in life’s simple pleasures. A devoted New York Mets fan, he rarely missed a game, cheering them on through every season. He was a master of solitaire and dominoes, but above all, he cherished his family. A devoted husband and father, he took the greatest pride in his role as a grandfather, finding immense joy in mentoring his grandson, Jose. His teachings of love, respect, and dedication came full circle as Jose lovingly cared for him in his final weeks—a true testament to the values Marcial instilled.

Marcial is predeceased by his parents, Emiliano and Cleofe Medina. He is survived by his beloved wife, Blanca; his son, Jesus, and his wife, Abby; his daughter, Jacqueline, and her partner, Louis Gonzalez; and his cherished grandson, Jose Gonzalez.

Marcial’s legacy of love, service, and unwavering dedication to family and country will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
