Marcella M. Demba, 93, died peacefully on January 17, 2024.
Born in White Plains, New York to the late Joseph and Anna Marie Terpis, their family settled in Somerville where Marcella graduated from Somerville High School.
Her family owned a popular mechanic garage on 22 growing up, she worked around the shop, and eventually met the late Edward Demba when he went to have his Indian motorcycle worked on. Marcella went off to college for a semester, and realized she missed her family, and came home to be closer to them. She and Edward met again at a dance, and the two were married at The Church of The Immaculate Conception by Msgr. Kelly. In 1955 with the help of family and friends, they built their own home in Bridgewater where they raised their family. She enjoyed gardening in her yard and growing her own vegetables to cook with. The Demba family even had a little farm with some chickens for fresh eggs and their property was surrounded by horses.
Mrs. Demba worked for Johnson and Johnson and Baker and Taylor, before working for The Church of The Immaculate Conception in their school, and then their parish office for almost a decade.
In their retirement, the Demba’s moved to New Mexico, where they enjoyed traveling in their camper and making friends in their adventures. Marcella had a natural artistic talent, creating countless needlepoints, she enjoyed the quality time spent creating. After her husband passed away, she lost her son Joseph in 2017, and decided to move back home to New Jersey to be closer to her son and family. She lived in Brookdale where she had a social environment and was able to enjoy time with her family, before moving to All American Assisted Living in Hillsborough.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Edward Demba, her dear son Joseph Demba, and her brother in law Harry Bachrach.
Surviving are her loving son and daughter-in-law Christopher and Stacy Demba, her cherished granddaughters Meghan Demba and fiancé Diego Martinez, and Melissa Demba, her dear sister Cecelia Bachrach, her nephews David Bachrach and Marc Bachrach and wife Carol, as well as her extended family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at The Church of the Immaculate Conception, 35 Mountain Avenue, Somerville.
