Lewis C. Geiger, husband of the late Mary Geiger, died September 6. Mr. Geiger was born in the Bronx, NY and resided in South Plainfield, Plainfield and Middlesex before moving to Somerset County in 2001. He enlisted in the US Army at the outbreak of WW II as a private and within a year in the 112 Field Artillery Division was commissioned a 2nd Lt. He served in the 6th Armored Division in the Mohave Desert and the Caribbean Theatre. Separated in 1945 attaining the rank of Captain, he joined the Active Reserve and retired in 1975 as Lt. Col. US Army. During his time in the Army Reserves, Mr. Geiger worked at the South Plainfield Post Office and retired there in 1973 as the Postal Supervisor after 37 years employment. He was a Charter Member of the VFW #6763 of South Plainfield and Life Member of the Reserved Officers Association.
Surviving are his daughters Jayne Geiger, her husband Jim Rogers, Joyce Loupassakis, her husband Gary and Joan Geiger, her husband Thomas DellaVentura. 4 Grandchildren Jason, Jordan, Joel and Josef and 2 great grandchildren Joy and June. Mr. Geiger was predeceased by his daughter Geraldine Anne Geiger and his siblings Elizabeth Gaub and Carolyn Helmer.
Visiting hours from 5pm-8pm on Sunday, September 9, at the Cusick Funeral Home, Somerville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30am on Monday, September 10, at the Immaculate Conception Church, Somerville. Interment to follow at church cemetery.
