Lorraine Esther Dozier, 89, died peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on July 20, 2023.
Born and raised in Chicago, IL to the late Battista and Theresa Pettenon (nee Conale), she met and married the late Howard Dozier and the two settled to South Plainfield, New Jersey where they raised their family.
She began her career as an Administrative Professional with Chicago Title and Trust and devoted the rest of her life to taking care of her family. She was a woman before her time and led by example to her children and grandchildren the importance of using their voice. Lorraine strongly believed in the importance of education and often used her network to support others’ career aspirations. She always kept physically healthy and included her family in fitness, doing Jack Lalaine with her children and going on walks.
Lorraine loved the arts. She exposed her family to plays, museums, and Broadway from a young age. She loved displaying her talent at the piano and relished any opportunity to have a sing along. She was fortunate enough to sing for Pope John Paul II and was a member of Sweet Adeline’s Choir and Our Lady of Lourdes Church Choir.
She was an advocate in her community for the environment and recycling. Lorraine marched for many causes and supported new mothers and babies in line with her religious beliefs. She had faith in the family unit and ensuring everyone’s needs were met.
Her personality shined as bright as the sequins on her clothes she loved. She was never shy about making a new friend or singing her heart out. Her love of chocolate was beyond indulgence. Most of all, the greatest joy in her life was being a mother and grandmother and the quality time spent with her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Dozier.
Surviving are her loving children Michael Dozier and wife Valerie, Karen Mount and husband Nelson, Patricia Storms and husband Joe, and Christine Dozier and husband Scott Rufolo, her cherished grandchildren Shannon Wisniewski, Rachel Lipala, Patrick Dozier, Samuel Mount, Jenna Palma, Christopher Palma, step grandchildren Page Rufolo, Emily Rufolo, Drew Bruenn, and Natalie Lombardi, great grandchildren Maxim, Morgan, Sebastian, Ansel, and Declan, as well as her extended family.
