Lillian H. Sayre, 94 passed away peacefully on March 19, 2015 at the Avalon at Bridgewater Assisted Living. Lillian was born in Chelsea, Mass. February 1, 1921. Nine years later her family moved to Brooklyn, NY, where she attended "Girls Commercial High School." After graduating she moved to Branchburg, NJ with her parents who owned and operated the Branchburg Station, which many years later is now called "Stoney Brook Grill." Lillian retired from Bridgewater Township Municipal Building Tax Office, where she was employed as Senior Assessing Clerk from 1954-1979, giving 25 years of dedicated service. She was a member of the Health Hiker Walking Program sponsored by the "Sail Program" at Somerset Medical Center and Bridgewater Mall.
Lillian enjoyed the activities and companionship of being with her friends. As an avid traveler who loved sightseeing, she visited many places of interest here in the US and throughout the world. Lillian rarely missed the opportunity to travel with her family, friends and Tour Group of Hunterdon. A lover of performing arts, she enjoyed live theater, ballroom dancing and the Big Bands.
Lillian was preceded in death by her loving parents, George and Della Hahon, who were immigrants from the Ukraine; her beloved husband of 12 years, William F. Sayre, Proprietor of the Watchung View Inn in Bridgewater and her beloved brother Frank Hahon. Lillian leaves behind her loving children; daughter, Gerry Hill Couch and her husband Don of Bridgewater; her son Charlie Hill of Fort Smith, MT; stepson, Ron Kunzman of FL; also by four grandchildren; Cheryl Couch Gross, Greg Couch, Marnie Hill and Kevin Hill; a sister Olga Calhoun of Ocala, Fl., eight great grandchildren; three nephews and one loving niece. Lillian has made a lasting impression on everyone in her life, and she will be sadly missed.
Visitation from 2pm-5pm on Sunday, March 22, at the Cusick Funeral Home, Somerville. Funeral Service 11am on Monday, March 23, at the funeral home. Interment to follow at the New Cemetery, So. Bridge St., Somerville.
Contributions in Lillian's memory, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Martinsville Rescue Squad or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
