Leroy Elliston Barry, born May 17, 1938, passed away at the age of 84 in his Bridgewater, NJ home on January 1, 2023.
He is survived by his wife Danielle Barry, 74; daughters Meredith Barry, 39, and Millicent Barry, 34; granddaughter Della Piperata, 10; sister Catherine Eggolt, 94; and twin brother Robert Barry, 84.
Born in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and raised in Queens and Brooklyn, New York, Roy’s natural talent, training, and hard work led to a vibrant career as dancer, actor, playwright, director, teacher, and choreographer. His resume includes night club work, five Broadway shows, American and European tours, TV and spokesman work, industrial shows, and many print and commercial works. Roy and his family moved from Brooklyn to New Jersey in 1987 where he worked in financial services for more than 30 years while maintaining substantial involvement in his local performing arts community.
A proud U.S. Army veteran serving in Military Police, he was a member of the American Legion Post 12, Rotary Club of Somerville and Bridgewater, St. John’s Episcopal Church, The Playwright/Director Unit at the famed Actor’s Studio in NYC, the Screen Actors Guild, and three other arts unions. He is beloved by his family and New Jersey’s theatrical community.
Roy’s family thanks all who have sent him so many kind messages and prayers over the last few years. They brought much support and encouragement to him as he headed toward his final act and ultimate curtain call.
