Leonard Grasso Sr., passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family into the presence of his Lord Jesus on March 13, 2016. He was number eight of nine children born to Leo and Lena Grasso who moved to Raritan from New York, to open The “Grasso Pasta Company”. Lenny was a resident of Raritan for 60 years attending St. Ann’s Church from childhood. He graduated from Somerville High School.

Lenny worked at Johns-Manville and later became a Journeyman carpenter for Somerville Local 455. His friends and family knew his passion for being a vocalist studying voice in New York City at the School of the arts above the Roseland Ballroom. His talents brought him to sing with multiple bands, in night clubs, variety shows and later was involved in a barbershop group.

Lenny was a devoted husband to Margaret Grasso for 61 years, and the loving father of five children: Grace, Leonard Jr., Cynthia, Ralph and Thomas. He was a devoted grandfather to nine grandchildren: Katie Ann, Tim, Emily, Rebecca, Andrew, Larissa, Alexis, Serena(who shared his birthday) and Gradyn. Lenny also had two great grandchildren Eliana and Emerson. He was predeceased by his parents Leo and Lena and also his siblings Grace, Ralph, Steve, Joseph, Anne, Isadore, Rosie and Mary.
Lenny was an Army Veteran, Councilman in Raritan, and served 15 years on the Raritan Board of Adjustment. He was involved in his community as a baseball coach, loved the Yankees and playing Golf. Later in his life, he became an active participant in Powerhouse Christian Church, Bridgewater.

His greatest accomplishments were the love, faith, guidance, generosity and wisdom he gave to his family and friends every day.

Visitation at the Cusick Funeral Home, 80 Mountain Ave. Somerville, on Thursday, March 17, from 2-4pm and 7-9pm and on Friday morning beginning at 9am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at St. Ann’s Church, Raritan. Burial to follow at St. Bernards Cemetery, Bridgewater.
