Jules Tischler, a long time Somerville businessman - affectionately known as JT - passed away peacefully on February 8, 2018, at the age of 89. After many decades of marriage, JT’s wife Bernice preceded him in death by only a few weeks. He was also predeceased by his parents Max and Fay (Madnick) Tischler and a brother Herbert Tischler.
After serving his country in the military, JT drove a truck for a living so he did not have a boss looking over his shoulder giving him orders. Beginning with trucking, JT founded and ran several businesses, where his management style was noted for his phrase, “Would you do me a favor?” For fun, JT parked the truck and rode motorcycles. He was a founding member of the Polar Bear Motorcycle Club and also a long time member and past president of Dawn Patrol Motorcycle Club. He worked for many charitable causes and civic organizations over the years.
He was a great fan of auto racing and regularly attended races every weekend at the old Flemington Speedway. JT sponsored several race cars and drivers.
JT was an animal lover, adopting many stray dogs, cats, goats, and horses over the years. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to your local animal shelter.
Surviving are his son, Michael Gregory (Mary Ann); 2 grandchildren, Shawn Burke and Miah Harbaugh, 6 great grandchildren, his siblings Barbara Prinz (Harvey Arbeit) and Al Tischler (Janet), 3 nephews and his trusted friend and close business partner, Anthony Delia.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of JT’s well-lived life on Sunday, February 11, 2018, from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at Cusick Funeral Home, 80 Mountain Avenue, Somerville, NJ. JT will be cremated and a final private service will be held on his beloved farm in warmer weather.
