Joseph N. Florio, 92, of Somerville, died on August 1, 2022. The youngest of three children, Joe was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA to the late Umberto and Camille Florio (nee DiGiorgio). His family later settled in Ardmore, PA where he graduated from LaSalle High School. Known to his family and friends as “Joe”, he received a BS degree from Villanova University. Upon graduation in 1952, Joe joined the Air Force and became a fighter pilot. It was during this time, he married the love of his life, Doris Joan Winters and spent the first years of their marriage stationed in Japan following the Korean War. After returning to America, Joe transitioned from active duty to the Air National Guard out of McGuire Air Force base in Wrightstown, NJ ultimately retiring as a Colonel and a fighter squadron Commander. In 1958, Joe’s growing family settled in Somerville where he embarked on what would be a life-long career with GE/RCA Solid state and Harris Electronics until his retirement in 1992.
