John V. Smith, 91, of Lakewood, and formerly of Somerville, passed on Monday, April 11, 2016 at JFK Medical Center in Edison, NJ. Born in Perth Amboy, NJ, he honorably served in the United States Navy as a Radioman 2nd Class during World War II and later worked as a Draftsman and Steel Inspector at Research Cottrell in Bridgewater, NJ. Post retirement he worked in the Somerset County Courthouse in Somerville, NJ.

He was predeceased by his wife, Betty, who passed in 2007. He is survived by his son, John V Smith Jr and his wife Paula of Tampa FL, Don Smith and his wife Diane of South Williamsport, PA, Sharon Smith of Lakewood, NJ, Kevin Smith and his wife Jaycee of Chendu China, Roy Smith and his wife, Nelly of Long Valley, NJ and Joanie Beckenhauer and her husband, Rich of Toms River, NJ.

He leaves seven grandchildren: Caitlyn Accatino, Erin Fairchild, Erica Beckenhauer, Pamela Smith, Kaycee Smith, Danielle Smith and Kevin Smith Jr. and two great grandchildren: Jamie and Jax Accatino.

Visitation will be held on Thursday morning, April 14th beginning at 8 am at the Cusick Funeral Home, 80 Mountain Avenue, Somerville followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate his life at 10 am at Immaculate Conception Church, Somerville.
