John M. Manning, Jr.

March 31, 1959 — July 28, 2023

John M. Manning, Jr. 64, died suddenly surrounded by the love of his family on July 28, 2023.

Born and raised in Somerville to the late John Sr. and Virginia Manning (nee Spencer), he was a graduate of Somerville High School class of 1977. He met the love of his life, Wendy Wisniewski at Pheasants Landing in Hillsborough on that same night their story began (As Jack would put it, the scene of the crime). The two were married in 1991 and settled in Somerville just a few houses away from Jack’s childhood home where they raised their son, Brock.

Jack was a Master Mason and second-generation owner of John M. Manning and Sons Mason Contractors with his brother Jeff for the past 45 years. He devoted himself to construction projects all around the Somerville area, including at his hometown parish of Immaculate Conception Church. Jack was a devout Catholic man who prayed every day for those he loved and the world at large. He was a Somerville Pop Warner football coach as a young adult and made his return for two years while his son Brock played. Jack, Wendy, and Brock always enjoyed driving to ”The Best” sporting event of the night in New Jersey. Jack was a huge sports fan and was an avid New York Giants and Mets fan. He enjoyed spending his time with friends at the Hoagie Hut, sharing lots of laughs. On Sundays during football season he would always make sure to bring everyone’s favorite donuts because Jack always needed something sweet after he ate.

Growing up, Jack and his siblings enjoyed family trips to Ortley Beach. He enjoyed many years on Long Beach Island with his own family and was now enjoying time in Point Pleasant Beach. Jack was a simple man, his greatest joy in life was spending time with Wendy and Brock. Although he didn’t use social media, somehow he always knew about what was going on in town. Jack was a well known resident of Somerville and will be greatly missed in the community.

Jack is survived by his beloved  wife of 32 years, Wendy Manning, his cherished son Brock Manning, his brothers Dennis Manning and wife Suzi and  Jeff Manning and wife Marisa, his sister: Susan and husband Michael, Nephews: Patrick, Matthew, Daniel, Jack, and Troy, Niece: Briele.
