John was born in the Bronx, New York on December 22nd, 1947, to Alfred and Miriam Burr. He was the third of seven children. He is survived by Kathy Burr, and his son Jason Burr. He was predeceased by a younger son Joshua Burr. He is also survived by four sisters (Janice, Marjorie, Ginny, and Alison), and a brother Peter Burr. He was predeceased by his youngest brother Timothy in 1990. John was also enormously proud of his four grandchildren (Lauren, Kristina, Paul, and Arthur) and several nieces and nephews.
John moved to Bogota, NJ when he was two years old, and was a graduate of Bogota High School in 1965. He attended Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington. John returned to New Jersey where he taught one year at Dunellen High School before beginning his career in business with Harris Steel. Later he moved into Sales at Braddock Protective Coatings, where he made many contacts and colleagues up and down the East Coast. He moved out of his career in Industrial Sales in the late 90's and became the owner of a Wild Birds Unlimited franchise in Scotch Plains. He enjoyed talking to his customers about how they could turn their backyards into a place to attract birds and wildlife.
Travels to Acadia National Park, Sonoma, Arizona, Sanibel, New Orleans, and the Grand Canyon were all memories he loved to discuss.
He attended his 50th High School Reunion in 2015 and was happy to tell stories and reconnect with classmates. There is a particularly good story out there about the night he snuck into the Bogota Borough Swim Club with friends.
He was a fan of the New York Yankees, and he attended World Series games in 1957 and 1958, 1964, 1977, and 1978. On October 1st, 1961, he was present to see his favorite player Roger Maris hit his historic 61st home run breaking Babe Ruth's single season home run record.
John would want to say a special hello to Paul, Charlie, Barry, and everybody in the gang that was part of the Tuesday hang out at the pub. He loved talking with friends and most of all...playing the jukebox.
John will be missed by friends and family.
