Joan C. Thomas of Somerville passed away on August 2, 2011. A Memorial Service will be held in her honor on August 20, 2011 at Cusick's Funeral Home, 80 Mountain Ave., in Somerville. The Memorial Service begins at 1:00 pm, with visiting beginning at noon for friends and family to gather.

Born and raised in Jersey City, Joan lived in Bound Brook for eighteen years before moving to Somerville and ultimately residing in the Somerville Senior Citizens’ Housing complex. Joan worked for Somerset County for several years and then retired from Chubb and Son Insurance in 1996 after many years of dedicated service.

Joan was the beloved wife of the late Richard William Thomas. She was the loving mother of Richard S. Thomas and Jo Anne of Manitou Springs, CO; LoriAnn Thomas of Budd Lake, NJ; and Kathleen Thomas McCarter and Todd of Collierville, TN. Joan was the dear sister of Gori Carfora and Ann Marie of Lakewood, NJ.

She is also survived by six grandchildren: Shane, Jeremy, D.J., Kasey, Jackson and Owen. Joan leaves behind her dear friend, Barbara McCarter, whom she loved as a sister.
