Joan M. Fischer died Saturday, November 15, 2014.

She was born on July 10, 1931 in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada. After graduating from nursing school in Canada, she moved to Sacramento, CA where she was employed as a surgical nurse. She lived most of her life in Somerville, NJ where she raised three children.

Mrs Fischer was an avid reader, a skilled bird watcher and took joy in mastering the Sunday New York Times crossword puzzle. She was also a snow bird enjoying winters in Marco Island, Florida. She was a volunteer with the American Cancer Society for many years.

She is survived by two sons, Jeffrey and his wife, Carol of Clinton, NJ, Brian Fischer of Hillsborough, NJ and a daughter Cindy Fischer of Phoenix, AZ; proud grandmother of four cherished grandsons, Colin, Michael, Corey and Steven; a very dear sister-in-law, Terry Sheppard of Canada; sisters-in-law, Polly Reilly, Dolores Fischer and brother-in-law Ralph and his wife Evelyn Fischer and many nieces and nephews in both the United States and Canada.

Friends may call from 2 to 5pm at Cusick Funeral Home, Somerville, NJ, on Wednesday, November 19. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, Thursday, November 20, 2014 at 9:30am at the Immaculate Conception Church, Somerville. Entombment of her ashes will take place 11:30am on Saturday, November 22, 2014, in St. Bernard's Mausoleum, Bridgewater, NJ.
