James B Daley

November 5, 1935 — March 15, 2025

James B. Daley, 89, died peacefully at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital on March 15, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

James/Jim, or Jimbo to many, was born in and grew up in Plainfield, New Jersey. He was born to Frank J. and Mary Ellen Ludford Daley and was the second youngest of nine children. He joined the US Marine Corps at the age of seventeen, where he served during the Korean War. In 1958, his sister Carol introduced Marilyn Hoch to him. That initial meeting is where he found the love of his life. Jim and Lynn were married on June 24, 1961. Their 64-year marriage was filled with many highlights and blessed events. They were the proud parents of four sons- Jim (Debbie), Jeff (Trish), Greg (Lisa), and Kevin. He was later blessed with seven beautiful grandchildren- Michael (Stephanie), Ryan, Courtney (Zak), Joey (Jade), Kyle (Maddie), Jordan (Anthony), and Matty. He was proud to have been there to welcome his four great-grandchildren to the world- Avery, Scarlett, Sabrina, and Caden. He was a true family man in every sense of the word.

Jimbo was a salesman for many years before finishing his career as an administrator for Bridgewater Public Works. Jim and Lynn raised their family on Cliff Street in Somerville, New Jersey. He encouraged his four sons to be neighborhood kids and to remember to be home when the dinner bell rang. He loved to be an involved parent as he coached his sons in little league, CYO basketball, and happily introduced them to golf. He was a member at Raritan Valley Country Club, where he taught his kids to play golf. This remained a common bond with his sons throughout his life. He never missed an opportunity to attend a sporting event or school event that his sons were involved with. He continued that by attending many of his grandchildren’s event as well. He was also a long-time parishioner at Immaculate Conception Church in Somerville.

Jimbo will always be remembered as a person that deeply cared for his friends and family. He had a literal open-door policy at his home in Somerville. Everyone was welcome at any time. Half the town knew where his terrible hiding spot was for his front door key. It didn’t bother him as he loved that people felt free to come by. He also enjoyed taking people out for boat rides at Lake Hopatcong, where many summers were spent. His later years involved some of the simpler pleasures of life. He enjoyed his morning coffee, reading his newspaper, playing poker and pinochle, and following his football pools.

Lynn and Jim lived an entire lifetime together, always being each other’s rock. They always felt blessed that their family was always close-knit and stayed local. His marriage to Lynn was the biggest highlight of his life. He will be missed by all that were fortunate enough to know him.

James is pre-deceased by his parents, in-laws Alfred and Mae Hoch, eight siblings (most recently- Carol Faber), and his nephew Robert E. Hendricks. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, four sons, seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren (and one who we will be welcoming soon), his sister-in-law, Pat Hendricks, brother-in-law, George Faber, many nieces, nephews and friends.
